Awana Games and Birthday Party!

Since we knew that Saturday would be a busy day, we did birthday cereal with Sonny & May on Friday morning. This was her choice:-)
It was a busy day on Saturday because...it was the Awana Games! They have been practicing every Saturday morning for the past 6 weeks, and it seemed to pay off! The kids were picked up (The Sparks director is a neighbour of ours!) at 7:30 in the morning. They got to ride in a "bus" (aka church 15 passenger van) to the event.
When we arrived to watch the competition at 10am, they were pumped and ready to go. Brooks was unaware that an air siren would be sounding at the beginning of *every* round/game. I don't think he took his hands out of his ears...hardly at all. Haha. Poor kid, he is still so scared of loud sounds. His mother's boy:-) At one point they asked for volunteers and Brian was chosen...and unknowingly "signed up" to compete in his own little game - the video footage shows their race. Unfortunately, this did not include crab walking or wheel barrow racing. Remember those "games"? That would have been tooooo funny. We cheered on our Sparks team (made up of 12 athletes, who also have finished at least 10 sections of their books to be eligible to compete). And we WON! Clearly, and decidedly too...it was pretty fun.

Watch a few minutes of the competition here:

(sorry one of my captions is bad. "Brooks gets out that same second")
Then it was home to get ready for the party! We were having Auntie Lauren (Dale was working), and 2 other families over for homemade pizza (Kenna's chosen meal), and fun! We ate, and played outside, had a little fire in the fire pit and roasted marshmallows - somehow there was a water fight (involving men and kids only, thankfully). It was a really great night!

Pink velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing. Delish.

The cookies taste amazing. They really do. And they're cuuuuuute

We apparently had a camera malfunction, because this is all we got - but at least it's proof that she was there, and we sang:-)

Happy Birthday, sweet girl, we love you!
