The Golden Crystal

The frustration of Kenna's life is made fairly apparent when watching this video she took. NO BROOKS. I DIDN'T SAY READY YET!!

Selling Short

Well, I didn't want to sell them short - They actually DID capture a picture, showing the "fighting birds" (mentioned in my previous post). In my defense though, if you saw the myriads of pictures I had to sort through off the camera, you might see how I could miss it;-) Proud of my little bird watching babies.

Bird Watching Laughs

I realize this video is a tad long, but there just wasn't anything I could cut out. I mean, her voice inflection alone is worth the listen. I had suggested they go out and see if any turtles had re-appeared after the long winter hibernation. They asked for the camera a few minutes later.

This produced about 30 basically useless pictures of our neighbours trailer.
Well, actually, if you look closely, it's not *just* the trailer. There are the birds that were attacking each other, as she states in the video. Apparently they were swirling around and pecking at each others beaks. Which sounds to me like it was likely some kind of mating ritual, maybe, and not a genuine bird fight. But in the interest of not having to explain what a mating ritual is, we're sticking with bird fight.

oh wait, there is a bird in this picture!

I think this is a nest maybe?

Two birds! And they are the ones accused of fighting I believe
So, this video is 3 minutes of your time, well spent:-) Well, if you want to hear such wonders as
"I know that sounds like a once in a life time, but..." and "Brooks is new to bird watching, so excuse that". In other news, her camera skills have improved, and the footage is no longer nausea-inducing:-)

Brooks' moves

Kenna borrowed the camera to take a video of Brooks singing a song. Instead of a video, we have lots of pics:-) I think you can actually get the gist of how it all went down, if you scroll through quickly:-)

A Woodpecker

Well, Kenna's bird watching is still in full swing. She often takes my camera out, giving me tons of footage and pictures of nonsense. You would not believe all the birds that have apparently made a habitat in our yard. An eagle. A heron. A chickadee in the middle of summer...basically - "oh woooow, neat..." I don't believe a word they say. Of course the pics are so blurry - it could be Big Foot and you couldn't tell. Until yesterday - she found a woodpecker, and she can prove it.

I'll admit, even watching the ever-nauseating video, I doubted her claims. "It had a red head, Mom!"...it was likely a cardinal, honey...sure enough, if you watch at the 1:00-1:10 mark - there is in fact a woodpecker in our front Live Oak (the one that was hit by the truck). I guess I need to give a little more credence to her claims - maybe she DOES know what all these birds look like:-)

I included the rest of the video because her running commentary is too cute. If you are easily prone to motion sickness, watch it with your eyes closed. The only thing to see is that 10 second clip containing the woodpecker...don't believe me? See for yourself...

Bird Watcher

We have been doing Apologia's science in school, and the study is on birds. Kenna has taken keenly to the idea that she could be a bird watcher. She watches birds, counts the flapping and gliding times, and draws them using the colours she can see. Yesterday I taught her how to use the camera and make sure it was strapped on to her tightly. This is a big deal for me - no it's not a magnificent camera, just a canon point and shoot, but it is my ONLY camera, so it's basically my prized possession.

This new skill has brought us...lots and lots of pictures containing no birds. She confessed that since they fly very fast, by the time the final click goes through on the camera, the bird is already out of sight. HAHAHA!

I have spared you by only posting a couple of the many many many pictures she took:-)

SHE GOT ONE! There is a bird flying in the picture below. Like a Raven or Blackbird of some type.
Over & Out - Kenna. Her very first Selfie pic:-)
Well, lets just say she's not about to narrate a documentary any time soon;-)

Kenna's Tribute - Video

I tell you what. Kenna wins best daughter award of the decade in my books.

She's learned how to use my camera for her bird watching adventures (more on that later), and today, while uploading some of her bird pictures to the computer, I came across the following video she recorded of herself. It is so sweet and thoughtful, it literally made me cry. I love that girl.

It's not only adorable, but hilarious too. What else would you expect from my kids? ;-)
I'd say, watch out world, she's "armed and dangerous" now. I'm sure there will be unending streams of pics and videos from now on;-)

*I didn't edit it at all, other than to stick the 3 individual videos together

Through Their Eyes

I sent the kids outside to pick up some pine cones early this morning. Brooks came in and asked for the camera. So I strapped it to his wrist, and here we go! Life as they see it, I guess:-) I was in the house and didn't see the pics until downloaded...
The newspaper

A collection of things

Posing
The sky this morning

She WAS wearing shorts...it seems like maybe they rode up? I thought I should clarify that she was not pants-less

A stylized shot of shoes. Good job Brooks

Snapping a pic of Sonny & May, arriving in the morning at 7:45am

Too cute. They did a good job getting the aim just so:-)

Kenna's Life

"This is Greyson on the Jumperoo"
"oh, that's the jumperoo again"
"That you, and your pretty necklace"
"That's baby Greyson in his carseat"

This is me showing her how to take a picture standing still, for much better results:-)

"That's the baby again, at Jack Jack's house"

"I don't know what that is. It's something." Laughing out loud!...she can't tell what this picture is, yet it seems just as clear to me as the others:-)
