Ireland - Mizen Head

We left Kinsale and headed to our next stop - Mizen Head. It is the most southerly part of Ireland, and the views do not disappoint, I guess in a technicality, Brow Head is a tad more southerly, but maybe the infrastructure to get people there doesn't exist? There is a signal station here at Mizen, so it is traditionally regarded as the most south, actual facts be darned. Brow is apparently a few meters more south, but history has long measured the length of Ireland "from Malin Head to Mizen Head".

For transatlantic shipping routes, it is either the first or last sight of Europe.

A pic for the kids - an inside family joke: Dolphins are whales!

This lighthouse still stands, and is operational (now by technology and not man power). We could see it clearly, 9miles off the coast.

The breathtaking views of Mizen Head simply cannot be captured on film. The height and depth of it is indescribable. On this pic you can see the white "dot" of a house on the left/top of pic, that is the signal station. And the long fenced strip on the right to middle of the top of pic is where we were standing to get a lot of the videos below. This is a HIKE.

Let me lead with - I AM TERRIFIED OF HEIGHTS. Standing on these bridges, and seeing these depths - it just kind of feels like I am continually falling? Hard to describe if you don't also feel that way. But I give myself HUGE high fives for my bravery this trip. I went to all the edges. It was AMAZING. And also, super duper scary.

Easterly views. The lighthouse is over off this side of the peninsula in the distance.

Faces into the sun, facing east, at the most southerly part humans can safely get to

Turned around, facing west

Westerly views
One thing we commented on - and keep in mind, we live on the other side of this ocean, literally. We live on the coast of the Atlantic in the west, and we are very familiar with salt water and salt air - none of which could be "felt" here. If you know, you know. But you know how you can "taste" salt in the air sort of? Well - That must be an American thing (?) , because you can't in Ireland. Strange? I have not been to the Atlantic more northernly than NY - so tell me if it's different up north? We both noticed how different that felt - how different the other side of the same water is, and how the waters/winds work across oceans is fascinating.

Most of these are pretty short, but gorgeous. My narration will tell you what you are seeing.

Video below - Brian comes up behind and grabs my ribs - when you already feel like you're falling, this is not a fun feeling. Hence my freakout and subsequent videos on other days in the future of "stay away from me" 😂
