So this day, we were doing the "Ring of Beara". After Mizen, we headed to our next site on the map...Glengarriff. There is an island off the bay here called Garinish or Garnish Island, and it is always warm there, because of its sheltered location and the influence of the Gulf Stream, which creates a subtropical climate.
We stopped for brunch before getting the ferry. Brian ordered a traditional Irish Breakfast. The one and only time 😂 Their bacon is a cross between ham and Canadian back bacon. Their beans aren't a preferred style - Kenna liked them when she was in England. Brian thought they tasted like beans in ketchup. He would not eat the black pudding, due to it being made with blood, but I was game to try it. And it didn't taste that bad. I actually liked the flavours better than the white pudding which seems bland to me. The black one "tasted like Christmas" to me - whatever spices were in there...maybe allspice and some cinnamon? I wouldn't go out of my way to have it, but it was perfectly fine.
I ordered a ham, cheese and pickled onion panini. I received a cheese, tomato, and regular onion panini. But it was delicious, so I didn't complain. The crisps they serve were always the "Cheese and Onion" flavour that are popular there. They look "plain" so sometimes it throws you when you bite - it's a good flavour, I really like it.
SEALS!!!!! They are SOOOOO cute!!
Ugh, a bad pic that another passenger volunteered to take for us. But proof that we were there, so who cares, right 😉
A golden eagles nest. We watched for them but didn't see them.
There is an italian villa on the island, walled gardens, and a home.
Instead of Exit signs, they always have "Way Out" signs
It was such a beautiful experience, if you're in the area, a trip out to Garinish is well worth it!
