Hockey Night in Virginia

Last night we played broom hockey, and everyone had a really good time, despite a lot of slips and falls!

Notice Spiderman on the ice in this one!

Going Places

Here's the lil' guy showing off some of his new tricks. He can sit up pretty well now, although still needs some pillows behind him. He has also started getting up on his knees and trying to scoot forward. He is such a cutie!

Brent's Engaged!

Well I guess I am a little behind here...a few weeks ago Brent and Chantelle got engaged! They will be married on July 5th, 2008 in Alberta. Congrats guys, we are really happy for you! I have heard that their colours will be a light greenish-blue, but I think that is still to be determined.

And in more "marriage" news, Mark & Lauryn have the date set for their wedding, it will be March 8th, 2008. Their colours are off white and chocolate brown. Can't wait to get to Ontario and see everyone again!

Broom Hockey

Our friend Josh made this little promo video for the upcoming youth event. It's pretty funny, actually...just to see Brian "sweeping" the street...haha! Enjoy!

Busy Week

It was a busy week last week, with 5 different parties to attend (all on different days, one was a kids birthday party though)! And of course youth group, so that really left no time at home at all! This Sunday Brian was announced as the interim youth pastor, but of course that needs to be voted on by the church members in about a month. So far we are really enjoying our time with the youth ministry, and Brian is learning lots from Pastor Dave. Fun stuff! Yesterday we spent 2 hours at the doctor's office as they were incredibly behind schedule. It was discovered that Kenna has an ear infection (with no fever!), which she was apparently beating on her own, but we now have medicine for that. And they both got shots. Ouch.

After coming home from Casey & Adam's engagement party, Brian set Kenna on the couch and she was out!

This was today in the car coming home from Costco. She got a free cookie and definitely made the most of it. She sort of looks sad here, but she wasn't...just trying to smile for Mommy!

I'm working on it, Caralyn:-P

Here are a few pictures from the last few days.

Learning his letters...sort of...

A smile, and another forehead bruise

Her new diaper bag, or rather, big girl backpack. She loves it but for some reason she thinks this is the way it is supposed to be worn. Maybe for easy access to the snacks.

Mommy & Baby

Ok, most people say they see Brian in Brooks, and I do too on some days. But I still maintain that boy looks at least a little bit like me! C'mon they can't all reject my genes! I was watching him bounce today (his favourite thing in the world) and could really see it, so I will seek to prove it.

Me, age unknown (it's not on the picture, shame on you mom:-)

Me at 9 months

Daddy's Girl, Mommy's Boy...maybe that could be our little theme:-)

Shrimp Ceviche - Recipe

This is basically a shrimp salsa, very light in flavour and easy to do!

1 lb cooked frozen shrimp, thawed, drained and chopped (about 36-45 pcs)
1 C fresh lime juice (I used the concentrate juice in the bottle)
1/2 C Zesty Italian dressing
1 red pepper, seeded, chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 T chopped cilantro
tortilla chips (Scoops ones work really well, I thought...you just get more!)

Place shrimp in bowl, pour combined lime juice and dressing over shrimp. Add red pepper, celery and cilantro; mix lightly. Cover. Refrigerate several hours to marinade

Drain shrimp mixture; discard marinade. Serve with chips

Note: Ceviche mixture can be prepared in advance. Cover and store in refrigerator up to 3 days, when ready to serve, drain it, then serve it!

Jennifer is back!

Kenna has a new best friend, my German Cabbage Patch doll, Jennifer. I was given Jennifer when I was about 5 years old, so...she's old! She is a lot bigger than a normal doll or cabbage patch kid, and she can stand up, so Kenna likes to walk her around and strap her in Brooksie's car seat (she's about his size). I had to do a double take yesterday as I thought she was a real baby...she is currently wearing one of Brooks' sleepers. The carebear, dubbed Ni-Night Bear was a yard sale find.

Stickers

Kenna is really into stickers right now. I gave her a few to play with as I made dinner, when I looked in the livingroom, there was Brooks with all the stickers in his hair, and Kenna arranging them beautifully. I went to grab the camera as it was too cute, but when she saw an opportunity for a pic, she grabbed them all back for herself. I really wanted them back in his hair..."Kenna don't you want to share with Brooks again?" "Nah" she says as she repositions them for the hundredth time.

Thunder Thighs

No doubt that the boy has grown quite a bit! Here he is at 8 days old, with skinny legs in a newborn size diaper...

An here he is at 5 months & 8 days old, with chubbiness everywhere, and size 4 diapers!!

I had to stretch out the legs and hold them as he was only interested in kicking furiously, and not posing:-)

Big Girl Chair

I really can't say enough good about the Bumbo seat. They are really a must have as they work in every stage. Brooksie uses it sit up and eat, and now Kenna does too, as a booster seat. She enjoyed last nights dinner as a big girl, even using a real cup! "ooops, I pilled sheeert"

I finally found clips that will hold her hair back from her eyes effectively. Yay!

Where did she get such a tiny nose?

Gooey Chocolate Coffee Brownie Cake - Recipe

This recipe is a yummy one. I don't like the fact that it calls for unsalted butter, but I have not tried it using salted yet (I have fears of things not turning out). Anyway, it's very rich and great for coffee lovers!

1 1/4C white sugar
7T cocoa powder
1C all purpose flour
2t baking powder
1/4t salt
1/2C whole milk
1/3C unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2t vanilla
1/2C light brown sugar
1 1/4C hot coffee
Vanilla ice cream for serving

In medium bowl, combine 3/4C of wh.sugar and 3T of cocoa w/ flour, baking powder & salt. Blend in milk, butter & vanilla until smooth. Pour batter into a glass or metal 8 or 9 inch square baking pan.

In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/2C wh sugar & 4T cocoa with the brown sugar. Sprinkle over the batter. Pour hot coffee over the top. DO NOT STIR

Bake 35 - 40 min at 350 degrees, until centre is set. Let cool a few minutes & serve with vanilla ice cream.

Real Food!

Today was BooBoo's first 'very successful' spoon feeding session. Meaning, he actually ate the whole bowl of rice cereal and swallowed more than he spit out. Here's the aftermath! I, for one, am overjoyed he is getting the hang of it, he is way too big and hungry to be on liquids only at this point. There really seems to be no end to this kids appetite!

Playdoh

A new found love, playdoh

She's not eating it, she's talking to it. Notice the big "owwie" on her head from falling and hitting the coffee table the other day.

Counting random numbers as she tears pieces off, then cheers for herself!
