Hello Kitty Cake

Time for another cake! For little Ardyn's birthday cake, she wanted Hello Kitty.

I printed a large picture of Hello Kitty from the internet, in a 9x13 size
Crumb coating - it was two layers of pink vanilla cake

Crumb coating the sides
Uh... and done! It was pretty simple, really. I used white buttercream, an off set spatula continually dipped in hot water to smooth it out, and a little bit of "massage" with a Viva paper towel to smooth is out and make it look fondant-like.

Ardyn had a swimming party!

the birthday girl and her cake!
Paper Towel Method I mentioned before - Once you spread out the buttercream and have it as smooth as you can get it, put the cake in the fridge. Once the icing is a little hard, and paper towel won't stick to it, take it out of the fridge, and lay a paper towel on it (with no pattern, Viva is good for this), and rub it gently over the areas that need further smoothing. The paper towel will not stick, if it starts to get tacky, the icing is getting too warm/soft so put it back in the fridge for a bit and start again with a fresh paper towel

Bad lighting my kitchen, sorry, but an attempt you show you the smoothness of the buttercream

Happy Birthday to Ardyn! We miss seeing her everyday (she was one of my "extra kids" last year)
